no - but, since ectos are used as high end currency it is like your nation's form of currency getting stronger in the real world vs everyone else's getting weaker..

ie: if you have ectos your worth is rising and your money can buy more. (cash them in and you will have more gold than you would have had a month ago - more cash to buy things with)

If you do not have them your worth is dropping because a higher ecto price would drive inflation (as those who have them decide it is time to cash them in and buy things)

Not a game breaker and not necessarily an indication of their supply or drop rate - but it does effect the buying/selling part of the game.

The ecto price increase was likely due to the tons of excess money that was generated from the Wintersday holidays...it was common for the dedicated farmer to make over 300K during that span.

When these farmers run out of gold storage, they look for alternative items to invest in - the most logical of which is ecto.

You'll gradually see the ecto price go back down, but a temporary spike can be expected shortly after events (ahem - Canthan New Year - ahem).
